What’s great about Hankley Common?

Popular with walkers and dog walkers’ alike, Frensham is home to two hidden gems in the South of England.

The two ponds, Frensham Little Pond and the Great Pond, were constructed in the 13th Century to supply fish to the Bishop of Winchesters’ estate and his court when they travelled across Hampshire to Farnham Castle.

You will enjoy a walk through a rugged heathland, home to many species of bird, a mixed pine and oak woodland decorated with ferns. Frensham Little Pond has beautiful rolling landscapes and a rugged walk all adding to the appeal of getting away from the City.

Where is Hankley Common?

Hankley Common is just 20 minutes from Godalming, 25 minutes from Guildford and 30 minutes from Camberley; Hankley Common is the perfect venue for a dog photoshoot in Surrey.

With a mix of woodlands, heather, gorse and sandy tracks, this makes the perfect backdrop for our Location Day and Off the Beaten Track sessions. The common spreads over 1400 acres and is one of the Sites of Special Scientific Interest locally with interesting flora and fauna.

The site is also used for Military Training, so the route of our walk may change dependent upon manoeuvres.

Two car park sites are available.

There is a carpark on the Thursley Road on an S-bend called Hankley Common Car Park.

There is a second, smaller car park also on the Thursley Road called the Thursley Public Car Park. This car park has a height restriction.

What facilities are at Hankley Common?

There are no toilets or cafe at this location.

This location is not suitable for those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility.

What to expect..

After you’ve selected your gift experience or session, we will be in touch to get some information about your dog, your home and the style of pictures you would love on the walls.
You will then receive an information pack to help you get the best from the session. If your dog is a breed that needs grooming, it’s best to do this a few days in advance and give the coat time to settle with just a tidy or brush the day of the shoot.
On the day, we’ll meet at the car park. You will want to bring your dogs favourite toy, or special treats, we will also have a bag of goodies to keep them motivated.

5. We will enjoy a relaxed and fun dog walk at a pace that suits your dog. Ensure you wear some sturdy shoes or boots, depending on how far we walk and the weather, we could be out for upto 2 hours.

6. We will start with some traditional sat portraits, then play some games, chase a ball or frisbee, then as we come toward the end of the session we’ll finish with a few more of those signature portraits.

7. You will be invited back to the Studio, normally within 2 weeks of your session to view your images, see samples of our handmade products and place your order.

Facts about Hankley Common

In 1943, Hankley Common was used as a D-Day training site. Canadian Troops built a section of the Atlantic Wall here to practice breaching it for the D-Day landings. Remnants can still be seen today.
Hankley Common has been used as a film location for many films including three James Bond movies and episodes of Doctor Who.
The common also became famous for more sinister reasons in 1942, where it became known as the site of the Wigwam Murder.
