- Local folklore has it that the Old Guildford Road is Haunted. Legend has it that the ghost of Old Charlie Miles and his spectral hounds frequent the Old Guildford Road under moonlight as they take their nightly walk towards the common. - During the Second World War, Mytchett Place, at the southern edge of the Mytchett Ranges, was used as a prisoner of war camp, Camp Z. A German Politician and leading member of the Nazi party, Rudolf Hess, was held here. Hess, was appointed second in command to Adolf Hitler, and fled to the Scotland to negotiate peace with the United Kingdom. You can find out more in this book.
