- During the Second World War, Mytchett Place, at the southern edge of the Mytchett Ranges, was used as a prisoner of war camp, Camp Z. A German Politician and leading member of the Nazi party, Rudolf Hess, was held here. Hess, was appointed second in command to Adolf Hitler, and fled to the Scotland to negotiate peace with the United Kingdom. You can find out more in this book.
